The I.Y.D. Academic Scholarship, of the Church of God In Christ, is awarded to deserving Church of God In Christ student with academic promise, financial need, and demonstrated commitment to Christ and His church. This scholarship is to provide financial assistance to High School Graduates and equivalent G.E.D. recipients, to help in their matriculation towards higher education in their chosen fields of study.

 

ELIGIBILITY:
Eligibility will be governed by the established criteria set forth by this document. Pleas refer to the section entitled “Eligibility Requirements” contained in the successive pages. The Scholarship Committee will strictly adhere to these requirements.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
The Scholarship recipients will be selected by the International Youth Department Scholarship Committee after the deadline date for submittal of all information. Each applicant must meet all eligibility requirements and submit a completed application with supporting information to be considered. After all applications have been reviewed, the Scholarship Committee will evaluate and select scholarship recipient(s) and will notify them by phone and/or mail.

 

Note:
1. All recipients will be asked to sign a consent letter authorizing their College institutions to release student’s transcript, to allow for monitoring of on-going progress.
2. The selection criteria involve applicant’s GPA, financial need, letters of references, essay submittal, and pertinent application information.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
In order to participate in the application/selection process students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

1. Applicant must be a, of the year applying, High School Graduate or complete an equivalent GED.
2. Applicant must possess a minimum GPA of 3.0, (out of a 4.0 scale).
3. Applicant must be a faithful member in good standing of the local Church of God In Christ.
4. Applicant must submit a double spaced typed written essay of not more that two pages in length on one of the following questions:
• What is the greatest challenge the youth of this generation face?
• In your opinion, how can the church most address this challenge?
5. Applicant must submit a double-spaced typed personal statement of no more that one page in length telling us about yourself, your greatest strength and how it can be used to help win other young people to God? Also include your hobbies, interests, goals in life, etc...
• Applicant must submit an Official Copy of your High School transcript for grades 9 through 12.
• Applicant must provide proof of enrollment as a full time student in College, University, or School of Higher Learning.
• Applicant must submit a completed application by the postmark deadline date of June 1, 2008.
• Applicant must provide a total of (3) letters of reference from the following persons: (1) Pastor; (2) Jurisdictional Youth Department President/Chairlady; (3) Jurisdictional Bishop/Supervisor of Women.
